Our client , PBF Australia is national not-for-profit organisation that provides much-needed financial support for those who sustain a permanent traumatic spinal cord injury. They were established to create greater awareness of the risks of spinal cord injury around Australia. They are a close friend to Spinal Cord Injuries Australia.
For those already living with a spinal cord injury, PBF offers peer support programs, lifestyle education and employment opportunities, with the goal of demonstrating that life can and does go on after a spinal cord injury.
About the Role
To deliver injury prevention presentations to a range of audiences including young adults, community groups,
employees and business managers on the following topics:
- Being injured at work affects everyone, especially work mates and family.
- Making safer choices does prevent death and serious injury.
- Ultimately every individual is responsible for their own choices.
- Your choices can impact negatively on others.
- Unsafe user behaviour can have serious real–life consequences.
- Safety as a Core Life value.
Responsible To: Business Support Manager
Reports to: Eastern States Manager
Requirements: Person must have sustained a permanent spinal cord injury.
Key Responsibilities:
- To prepare for presentations, ensuring all appropriate materials are available and functioning.
- To actively engage audiences, encouraging them to ask questions and explore issues around living with a
spinal injury. - To liaise and collaborate with the manager on the creation, development and maintenance of your story
and presentation - To liaise regularly with the respective offices to keep them aware of your availability to do presentations.
Notify them of holidays, illness etc. - To attend regular training sessions to ensure that all presentations are delivered to a consistently high
standard and are kept current and up to date. - To liaise with the respective offices regarding your attendance at presentations, travel arrangements,
directions and check emails regularly for bookings and general correspondence. - Where applicable, to arrange your own transport, and to ensure that you arrive at the appointment at least
15 minutes before the start of the presentation. - Ensure that your uniform is clean and appearance is tidy and wear your name badge
- To provide feedback following the presentation to the Injury Prevention Co–ordinator

- Increase awareness of the personal responsibility for choices and the resulting consequences.
- Encourage positive attitudes towards safer behaviour.
- Demonstrate how haste, distraction and complacency are major risk factors.
- Increase knowledge of the impact of serious injury and death on relationships and families.
- Encourage new workers and younger workers to be assertive in communicating safer choices to peers.
- Assist employers to change workplace cultures into positive safety focused cultures.
- Encourage positive behaviour choices.
