Spinal Cord Injuries Australia (SCIA) is a for purpose organisation working for people with spinal cord injury (SCI). We are passionate about continually improving our service offerings and driving innovation to provide maximum opportunity for those lives affected by traumatic injury.

    • Enhancing people’s functionality and health through exercise.
    • Offering a one-stop-shop for information on services, advice and support available Sharing the lived experience of having an SCI through peer support.
    • Influencing social change on a systemic and individual level.
    • Providing temporary and emergency care to people in their homes as required.
    • Supporting people back into employment, education or training.
    • Operating an Australian Disability Enterprise that employs people with disability and pays full award wages.
    • Providing accommodation for people transitioning home from hospital, or who need a break.

SCIA was founded by people with Spinal Cord Injuries. We employ and support SCI disabilities and at present they make up 33% of our staff, and a majority of our Board. As a NDIS provider, we are committed to the ongoing improvement of our processes and procedures to ensure that our service delivery complies with the National Practice Principles and NDIS Safeguards commission

ABOUT THE ROLE:

Reports to: Miranda Fenwick, Employer Engagement Manager.
Location: WFH and in Community.
Employment basis:  Casual.

The Disability Employment Ambassador engages with external stakeholders including employers and other disability providers to share information on our employment programs, recruitment service, and inclusion services, as well as engage with potential participants to the EmployAbility Program.

The main purpose of this role is to complete data administration tasks in line with the requirements of the various contracts that are secured by the Advancement Services team.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES FOR THE ROLE ARE;

  • Present disability awareness education sessions:
    • Learn EmployAbility training content
    • Contribute to content from a lived experience
    • Attending client sites and working with the Employment Engagement Manager and the Delivery Manager to facilitate the delivery of these sessions.
  • Attend external workshops, expositions, meetings events to promote SCIA employment service programs and services:
    • Develop knowledge of EployAbility program
    • Attend events such as exibitions with external organisations to share best practice within disability employment and promote SCIA employment programs and services to stakeholders who may benefit from our services
    • Capturing leads in CRM system
  • Conduct research, calls, and emails to create new opportunities to sign up new employers and new participants.
    • Perform activities such as emails, calls, and general research to create new leads for SCIA to engage new partners with our employment programs.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS;

  • Conduct emails and calls to develop new engagement opportunities
  • Attend internal and external events to showcase and promote SCIA employment service programs
  • Deliver employment and diversity presentations and workshops

TO BE A SUCCESS IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL HAVE;

  • High School Certificate or equivalent.
  • Experience or qualifications in the Community Services / Disability sector.

PERSONAL QUALITIES/CRITICAL COMPETENCIES;

  • Confident communicator in public settings
  • Strong presentation skills and experience with public speaking
  • Lived experience of disability
